  • WELCOME TO NICK UPTON, OUR SUMMER YOUTH WORKER FOR 2008! - Nick Upton has just completed his bachelor’s degree at UW in Computer Science and is joining the world of youth ministry for the summer. Nick brings a great maturity and love for Scripture to our program. He is excited to hang out with students and encourage them in their faith during the next couple months. Nick loves to play tennis and drink Arnold Palmers (not at the same time, of course). Introduce yourself to Nick and maybe invite him to join you in a game of doubles.

  • WEST SIDE BUILDING SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAYS THIS SUMMER – Please note that the church building will be closed on Saturdays in July and August, with the exception of July 12 when the building will be open for Special People. The building will be open Saturday mornings again beginning September 6.

  • SEARCH IS ON FOR NEW FACILITIES MANAGER: West Side currently has an open position for Facilities Manager. Qualifications include (but not limited to): ability to interface with and respond to a variety of people, able to maintain mechanically a large and diverse facility, able to supervise others, able to multi-task and be a “team player,” a Christian growing in their faith who delights in serving others. If you are interested in this position, resumes can be dropped off at the church office marked to the attention of Karol Aronson or emailed to karol@wspc.org. The Facilities Manager job description is available in the church office.

  • WANTED: EDITORS FOR WEST SIDE’S GOOD NEWS - The Maurers are retiring as our editors of our monthly newsletter. Are you interested in this fun and important job? Please call Clay Upton** or Janet Schreiner** for information about the job. Training is available.

  • CREATIVE GIVING OPPORTUNITY - Wouldn’t it be a wonderful benefit if West Side received a Federal Grant of $250,000 to reduce the outstanding debt on our remodel project? While the government will not give us a direct grant, the Federal Economic Stimulus program provides a unique opportunity to support the Connections Campaign with free federal money. This month the IRS will issue rebate checks of up to $1,800 for a family of four. The amount will vary based on the family’s total income. West Side has approximately 500 individuals and families that regularly support our ministries. If each family contributed $500 from their free federal rebate, we could reduce the outstanding debt on our project by $250,000. If you do not receive a federal check because your income exceeds the limits, please consider how God has already financially blessed you and make an equivalent contribution from your other resources.

  • ICE CONTACTS - We have begun to collect ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact cards here at the church. Should an emergency arise while you are attending worship or another church activity, this gives the church office information so they can get in touch with your family/emergency contact. If you would be willing to complete an ICE contact card you may pick one up and later return it to our Welcome Office. Of course the hope is we will never have to use your card.

  • UPDATED DIRECTORY COMING - We are in the process of running an updated church directory...has your email address changed? are you attending regularly and not currently listed in our church family directory of non-members and members? • THINKING OF YOU NOTES - Ever wanted to send someone a short note to let them know you are praying or thinking of them? There are cards in the pews for this use. Write your thoughts down, fold the paper in half and add the receivers name to the outside. You may hand deliver the note, place it in the offering plate or take them to the office. The Sunshine Committee Deacon will mail notes. What you write will be confidential and for the recipient’s eyes only.

Opportunities available

  • TEEN MOPS - Are you or someone you know interested in helping teenage mothers become the best Moms they can be? If you know someone who was a teenage mother and now has a heart for loving teenage mothers and their children, please call Jan Neupert**.

  • DEACON RECYCLING AND RECEIPTS PROGRAM - Did you know that the Deacon's ministry benefits from your donated aluminum cans and receipts from two local grocery stores? Drop your Admiral Metropolitan Market and Morgan Street Thriftway receipts into the boxes in the church foyer. They are submitted to a 1% community donation program for non-profit organizations at those two stores. The proceeds support the ministry of West Side Deacons–and the receipts do add up! Leave your rinsed, crushed aluminum cans in the receptacle near the dumpster behind the church. They are taken to West Seattle Recycling and the proceeds also benefit the Deacon's ministry.

  • LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO VOLUNTEER? Do you like to make folks feel welcomed when they come to the house of the Lord? Do you enjoy greeting new people as well as old friends? Our new main floor greeting office offers a new opportunity for you to use your gifts of hospitality and encouragement. Would you consider giving 3-4 hours either one morning a week or one afternoon a week as a “welcome volunteer” in our new main floor office? Or perhaps you would prefer Sunday mornings! We are looking for 4-8 individuals who will rotate throughout the week and on Sunday mornings at our new welcome station. Maybe you know this is perfect for you, or maybe you would like to just give it a try for a time. Please contact Karol (935-4477), karol@wspc.org, or write “welcome” on the back of your attendance card.

  • SMALL GROUPS - Did you know that West Side sponsors over 20 small groups consisting of anywhere from four to twelve people in each group? They meet regularly in homes or at church, study God's Word, pray for each other and reach out to others. If you would like to participate or just find out more, please contact the church office, 935-4477, or office@wspc.org.

Community ministry

City Team Ministries has grown since West Side started helping five years ago, from only two ministries--one in San Jose California and the other here in Seattle--to six major cities in the USA and in seven foreign countries. This ministry has turned many lives around and helped thousands of desperate men come to the Lord and now are disciples of Christ. Please go to City Team web site and look under Seattle to see how you can help with volunteer opportunities, mentors, prayer and prayer coordinators, special projects, medical van help, and a long list of ongoing needs.

City Team Ministries -- How Can you help?

We can always use men's clothing in good shape. West Side has committed to helping serve meals, chapel and music service once a month every third Saturday evening, we are looking for small groups, bible study groups. Social fellowship groups, anyone who would like to serve God's people in need. Come on down with us one of these Saturday evenings. You will feel good!

Romans 12:13 -- Share with God's people in need, practice hospitality.

In Christ
