West Side News

Special People Picnic is Saturday, July 12 at noon on Alki. We appreciate those who willingly help to set up the area, fix our luncheon, and serve our friends.

West Side’s Outreach Department’s Justice Issues Group is having a Special Needs Drive each month starting this month for the West Seattle Food Bank. Unfortunately, they are receiving fewer donations than normal. As fuel and food prices have increased, so has the number of those in need substantially increased.

While they are in need of all food items, their greatest needs are Ensure (a senior protein drink), baby food, diapers and protein (canned meats etc.). Direct monetary gifts for this drive are greatly appreciated and there is always the need for volunteers.

West Seattle Food Bank helps over 500 families each month in the 98106, 98116, 98126, and 98136 zip code areas. They are located at 3419 S.W. Morgan Street and their website is www.westseattlefoodbank.org. Non-perishable items may be dropped off at West Side. Perishable items should be dropped off at the Food Bank Monday through Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Summer Quarter Adult Forum (9:40am)

  • Sunday, July 6 - Andrew and Rabya Prout - This is a rare and special treat to hear from Andrew, our missionary to Jordan with Christar, and to meet his Jordanian bride Rabya and new baby Yamima on their first visit to the U.S. The Prouts are only in the U.S. a few weeks so we are very privileged to be able to hear from them.

  • Sunday, July 13 - Dan and Judy Norman are two of our newest missionaries, serving with SIM in Ethiopia. This will be the first time the congregation will have the opportunity to hear from them. Dan received a seminary degree while working at Boeing and took early retirement, and Judy resigned from her senior nursing position in obstetrics and neo-natal intensive care and they went as second-career missionaries to Ethiopia in 2006. They have finished their intensive language training, and now Dan is teaching at the Evangelical Theological College and Judy is nursing and teaching at the Myungsung Christian Medical Center, a new mission hospital, developed by the Myungsung Presbyterian Church of Seoul.
