Boy ScoutsTroop 282 would like to extend its gratitude to West Side Presbyterian Church for chartering our Troop for the past 58 years. We are thankful for the wonderful space you provide us to hold our meetings, to store our gear, and to hold our Courts of Honor. Without you our Troop would not run as well as it does. Thank You! Troop News (2/17/08)This year our Troop continued to grow as we welcomed 2 new scouts; we now have about 45 young men in the Troop. We have three recently awarded Eagle Scouts: Phil Dickey, Will Mentor and John Jinneman. Summer Activities: Last July we sent 34 Scouts to Camp Pigott near Monroe. Lots of rank advancements and merit badges were achieved at Scout Summer Camp. In 2008 we are sending the scouts to Camp Parsons, near Brinnon, WA. High Adventure: Also in July we had 16 scouts and 11 dads venture to the Bowron Provincial Park in BC Canada to canoe the Bowron Lakes, a 110 KM loop of pristine lakes. The two groups traversed the loop in 8 days and 7 nights. Mr. Brzoska led a group of climbers up the north face of Mt. Adams. The 2007 Skills Hike was led by Mr. Grueter and Mr. Dickey. New scouts on that week-long hiking trip were Rocco Buty, Andrew Grueter, Alex Kane, Spencer Shultz, & Elias Mendel. The Guides for the trip were Kevin Moseley and Max Lenny. Winter Activities: Scout Troop 282 and Webelos Pack 282 participated in the annual Klondike Derby last month along with 16 other Troops, totaling almost 300 Scouts and Webelos. Troop 282’s Keebler Patrol won the overall trophy and Webelos (Cub) Pack 282 won first place in the Webelos division. JLT Junior Leadership Training: An intense training session where the boys learn how to lead and inspire the Scout Troop. The following scouts attend in 2007: Connor Bailey, Rocco Buty, Barrett Estep, Andrew Grueter, Alex Kane, Chad Lehman, Todd Lehman, Kevin Moseley, Spencer Schultz, Max Shull, William Shull and Jay Weeks. National Youth Leadership Training 2007: Connor Bailey and Morgan Bingle attended the week-long National Youth Leadership Training program, held at Camp Sheppard, near Mount Rainier. Cub ScoutsCub Scouts is a wonderful opportunity for boys in grades one through five to develop interpersonal skills, leadership, character building, teamwork and moral grounding while making new lifetime friends. Boys are welcome to join us at any time of year. Meetings are Tuesday evening at 7pm throughout the school year. Pack News (9/7/08)Troop 282's Cub Scout Recruitment Night will be Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 at West Side. We are open to all boys from 1st grade through 5th grade. We have weekly meetings, den outings and troop camp outs too! Come learn more and join in the fun! Pack News (2/17/08)Pack 282 is tremendously grateful for the support of the church over the past year. We have 32 Cubs at different age levels (grades 1 through 5) participating in our activities. The annual popcorn fundraiser was a success and has afforded us the chance to have new activities, such as camping out at Camp Parsons, in addition to our traditional activities such as the Pinewood Derby and the Blue and Gold Banquet. In January our Webelos attended the Klondike Derby with the Scout Troop and won first place in the Webelos division. On February 26 the Webelos 2 den (5th grade boys) will cross over to the Scout Troop. Parent/Leader VolunteersThese activities are only possible because of parent/leader volunteers! Our current Pack leaders include: Cub Master: John Demaree Most importantly, all the Cubs are benefiting from character education as they grow into young men. Meetings are Tuesdays at 7:00 pm throughout the school year. For more information call John Demaree (923-1911) or the church office (935-4477). Past Pack News |
