March 2006

Dear West Side Family,

Some very exciting things have been happening at West Side recently. A few years ago, the property just south of the church became available to us. To ensure we had future room to grow, many of you helped us purchase the property. Thank you!

Now, after a three-year vision process to explore new possibilities for future ministries, we are surprised and delighted with the direction God is leading us. After evaluating a full range of suggestions about new ministry options, we discovered that the majority of ideas could be accommodated in our present building. We asked leaders from all our various ministries to determine how our facility might better meet everyone’s needs.

Working together with an outstanding architect, we now have an exciting and creative plan to update our church building (see drawings on left). This plan transforms key areas at the heart of our church, enabling us to build a stronger community better equipped for the ministry to which God has called us. At the same time, this solution keeps the new property available for future ministries.

These are exciting days at West Side! There is a true spirit of grace and caring here which has drawn each of us to this community where we have been nurtured in our walk with Jesus Christ. Please join us, and be among those who will learn first-hand the joy of participating in God’s incredible plan for West Side — a faithful community where lives are transformed, sharing Christ’s mission to the world!

In His Name,

Paul R. Smith, Pastor

What is “Connections: Building for Community?”

Connections: Building for Community is our capital stewardship campaign to secure the money our church needs to move wisely toward its mission and goals. The theme takes its inspiration from Ephesians 2:19-22 where we are encouraged to overcome our alienation from each other and be built into a community of grace, founded on Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone.

May 2008 - Creative Giving Opportunity - Wouldn’t it be a wonderful benefit if West Side received a Federal Grant of $250,000 to reduce the outstanding debt on our remodel project? More...

April 2008 - We have reached the second anniversary of our three-year Connections Building for Community stewardship campaign.

Connections, Celebrating Community brochureCome join us on Sunday April 27, 2008 for a special CONNECTIONS Celebrating Community gathering between and after the worship services.

What has been accomplished?
Through the gifts of God’s people we have accomplished many things that improve our ministry. The elevator provides access to the complete facility for all of our members. Rap Hall is more welcoming to our youth. Sprinklers provide improved safety for children in the Christian education wing. Renovated offices connect the staff, strengthening their ministry to us. The Connection room improves the traffic flow and allows us to interact between and after services. The new kitchen supports fellowship activities for our congregation and outreach to our community.

Connections Sermon Series (2006)

On Sunday March 19, 2006, Pastor Paul launched the inspiration phase of our church-wide capital campaign with an insightful sermon about community. We were reminded that God has made us with a deep sense of the need for meaningful relationships and He has designed the church to fulfill this need. We have been blessed to be part of a thriving church body at West Side and by the relationships we have formed here. The following three Sundays will include other campaign-related themes as Paul explores God’s word concerning our calls to missions, stewardship and discipleship.
