A Message from the Pastor

Pastor Paul SmithFrom the Garden of Eden, God has revealed that it is not good for us to be alone. We were created to live in community, not in isolation. But a society which encourages us to place ourselves at the center of our own universe does little to encourage community. Most of us recognize that we have become more fragmented, living separate lives and finding little common ground. This is significant because the very word "community" contains the root "common" and recognizes the need for shared experiences, vision, and goals.

At West Side we are all about community. We belong to each other in a world that often leaves us feeling alone. Although we are diverse, we find powerful common ground in our commitment to follow Jesus Christ, and to live as the Body of Christ. The human body is wonderfully diverse, yet every part finds its meaning and purpose in relationship to every other part. Such unity in the midst of such diversity can only be maintained when each part is properly related to the head. And of course the head of the church is Jesus Christ.

Our goal at West Side is that everyone come to know Jesus Christ and grow in relationship to him. We are committed to nurture and encourage and minister to each other, as Ephesians 4 suggests, as we grow into a healthy community of faith in which each of us finds a place. We invite you to visit West Side Presbyterian Church to get to know the community and encourage you to become a vital part of it.
