2007 CHRISTMAS MISSIONS PROJECT OFFERING -

Christmas is a time for giving from the heart. Again this year we have the opportunity to partner with some of our missionaries as we gift them with funds to cover the cost of specific project/program needs which are not included in their monthly support. The Missions Committee has selected the following ministry projects to be recipients of this year’s Christmas Eve special missionary projects’ offering. It is expected that your gift will be over and above your normal tithes and offerings. This year’s projects/programs are:

  1. Funds to purchase cement, wood and metal roofing for a small church to be constructed in Barlo, Chad. Cost: $6,000. Larry and Dianne Burke with Wycliffe in Chad, Africa.

  2. Funds to enable a fledgling Pame (Mexico) church in finishing a medical clinic. The floors need to be tiled and the walls covered with stucco inside and out. Cost: $1,500. Scott and Tonia Berthiaume with Wycliffe in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

  3. Funds to purchase needed playground equipment including teeter-totters and a climbing gym set for the New Tribes Mission base school in Papua, New Guinea. Cost: $3,000. Marcus and Carla Snedecker with New Tribes Mission in Papua, New Guinea.

  4. Funds toward the purchase of a newer used vehicle for Professor Danny McCain in Nigeria. Cost: $5,000. Danny and Mary McCain with International Institute for Christian Studies in Nigeria, Africa.

The article in the December West Side newsletter, The Good News, provides more information about these projects. Please prayerfully consider your part in giving. Special envelopes will be available throughout December.

YouthCompass Project Compassion, April 6-15, 2007, Romania.
We need about 20 adult site leaders, work team leaders, medical staff and others. If you have experience with construction and building projects we need you to help ensure that what the teens build is well built. What are the qualifications? Love God and love kids. Past YouthCompass trips...

1/20/07 Update - Are you looking for an opportunity to show compassion to those in need? Do your like to travel? Here's a great opportunity to do both! Youth Compass Project Compassion 2007 is just a few months away. This year they are working with Habitat for Humanity on a site about 2-3 hours outside Bucharest, Romania. The project will be to help renovate some former barracks originally built to house soldiers who were used as field labor on collective farms during the harvests. The building will become 11 apartments about 35-40 square meters each. Some of the work we'll be doing is plastering, sanding, painting, hanging doors, demo work, and pouring concrete. What's a service project without pouring concrete?

How can you help? Youth Compass needs site leaders to help the kids get the work done. No experience is required, just a desire to serve and a love of kids. Our team will need to be in Bucharest to meet the Habitat crew on the 7th of April and will work Tuesday to Saturday the 15th instead of Monday to Friday because of Easter. Individual or group travel before or after the work week is an option for you. We will have an informational meeting this Sunday evening (1/21) at 6:30pm in Boppell Parlor. Hope to see you there!

Need more information? Call or email Craig Chamberlain (932-7223 or craigchamberlain@comcast.net).

Hurricane Relief 2007 - We are looking for volunteers to send a team to southwest Louisiana for Hurricane Relief.

The recovery of Vinton (our location last year) is about 90-95% complete. South of Vinton, however, Cameron/Holly Beach are still less than 25-35% recovered and have a long way to go. There is a request for anyone interested in another trip to these areas to participate in rebuilding of the Cameron/Holly Beach area (top priorities are partitioning in churches that need room for education and a sports gym). With the help of Vinton First Baptist Church in arrangements for a base of operations (like our 2006 relief work team) and their offering of love and fellowship, we have a good start.

Please pray for this much needed outreach request that we may get a team together again. For more information call or email Jerry Williams (932-0090 or jersuew@comcast.net).
