MOPPETS

Our West Side MOPPETS Program

Do the moms and kids stay together?
MOPPETS volunteer with childNo. This organization is focused on nurturing YOU! We are able to offer limited childcare free of charge. In order to take advantage of this, we need all moms and children to register. Registering allows us to make sure that we have room in our MOPPETS program for each child. (Note: Even if you plan to attend MOPS without your child, please do register ahead of time.)

All children over the age of 3 months can be dropped off in designated, age-appropriate rooms. Procedures are in place to keep a high level of safety and security for your kids as well as communication with you throughout the meetings. Please feel free to contact us for room ratios and additional questions about our MOPPETS program.

What is a MOPPET?
A MOPPET is a preschool-aged child of a MOPS mom!

What is a MOPPETS Helper?
For twenty years (and counting), volunteers from West Side Presbyterian Church have been graciously donating their time and energy to help our organization. Whether they are rocking infants or rolling out the play-doh, our wonderful volunteers love to spend time with children. All helpers are background checked.

What do the kids do while in their MOPPET rooms?
Each room has a curriculum, except the infant room where the ladies just love to hold and rock your babies and chat with each other. In the nursery, volunteers engage in and supervise play time and snack. Children ages 2 years and older are divided up by their age; volunteers follow a curriculum that includes songs, story time, snack and craft projects.

MOPPETS Coordinator

Heidi, a long-time MOPPETS volunteer Meet Heidi Thorson, a longtime MOPPETS volunteer, West Side Presbyterian member and MOPPETS Coordinator. She works with approx. 30 volunteers in providing the best possible care for your little ones. Heidi is responsible for organizing all the wonderful volunteers that care for our children each MOPS morning. If a volunteer calls in sick or happens to be out on vacation, she pulls out her substitute list and makes some calls. It would not be an exaggeration to say that without Heidi and her loyal volunteers, West Side MOPS could not exist.

When asked about what she enjoyed about the MOPPETS program Heidi said, "Having been a MOPS mom 20 years ago it is a privilege to work along side Sally Porter (former MOPPETS Coordinator) and support MOPS by volunteering in the MOPPETS program.  Children are a precious gift from God and each MOPS Friday it is a joy to interact with your children.  I love to watch the expressions on their faces when you toss them a ball and they catch it or they complete a puzzle by themselves. Their smiles and hugs are great too!"
