About Us

West Side MOPS (Mothers-of-Preschoolers) is a support group for mothers of young children that has been an actively serving West Seattle for over 20 years! We recognize the incredibly important task that mothers are taking on and offer them a unique opportunity by providing a 2-hour retreat that includes childcare. It’s a chance for worn-out mothers to relax, enjoy a snack, an uninterrupted conversation, and to receive encouragement from our mentor moms. It’s also a wonderful place to forge friendships with other women who can empathize about these challenging preschool years.

Join us the first Friday in October to delve into our new theme for the year, "MomSense: Bold - Loving - Sensible." There are many aspects of being a parent that are very similar to playing board games. We analyze the players, strategize about how best to maneuver our game pieces, empathize with our fellow gamers when a move goes wrong, yet try to remain firm in the path we have chosen to take or the strategy. However, just as in life or board games, unexpected things happen that throw us curve balls we weren't expecting nor feel totally confident in dealing with. Did I make the right move? Was I fair? How can we get back on course? Am I being the best mom I can be, or that God wants me to be?

Throughout this coming year we'll talk about what it means to be confident in your mothering knowing that you were the exact person God had in mind to mother your children. The theme book for this year is, MomSense: A Common Sense Guide to Confident Mothering, which focuses on such topics as decision making, mom’s intuition and working through specific parenting dilemmas (“Mama Dramas”). MomSense reminds moms that they are the best mom for their kids and that they can develop contentment and confidence in their roles.

We meet twice a month at West Side Presbyterian Church in West Seattle. We meet formally October through May, the first and third Friday of the month from approximately 9:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Childcare is provided by West Side Presbyterian volunteers, whom we lovingly refer to as our MOPPETS Helpers. Moms drop off the children in their pre-assigned MOPPETS rooms between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and then join the group in Howell Auditorium for some much-needed Mom Time

MOPS is a support group for mothers of young children.

MOPS provides moms a two hour retreat that includes childcare.

MOPS is a wonderful place to forge friendships with other women who can empathize about these challenging preschool years.
